UK Merseyside 29-11-87. Well, if the number’s in a book and I can underline it, I’ll collect it. Matisa recording trolley DX50006 sits at Arpley. About a dozen of these were built in the 1950/60s to assess track geometry; they could travel at speeds between 20 & 40 MPH. In 1976 the very last BR Mk2f coach built at Derby DB999550 was heavily modified into a high speed (125MPH) replacement. This coach was able to measure and record track profiles whilst travelling in train formation and still operates systemwide today.
©Pete Dix

UK Merseyside 29-11-87. 1987 saw the beginning of steady withdrawals of class 47; depots and yards started to full up with members of the class. The next three photos show examples at Crewe Diesel Depot. 47015 heads the line up, she was withdrawn in the May of this year. Delivered as D1544 to Tinsley in October 1963, she lead a pretty unremarkable nomadic life, moving between various eastern depots, Crewe, Scotland and even had a spell at Cardiff before being withdrawn off Bescot.
©Pete Dix
