London 20-09-87. The irresistible urge to clear my Southern units took me back to London the following month. If you remember I finished off the last trip with a photo of 73122 County of East Sussex on the west side of London. I’ll start this trip with a photo of 73113 County of West Sussex on the east side of London, well south east actually at New Cross Gate yard.
©Pete Dix

London 20-09-87. New Cross was always worth a visit at the weekend, there was always a variety of units both DEMU and EMU plus lots of interesting SR coaching stock stabled up.
©Pete Dix

London 20-09-87. Here’s a different view of Clapham Junction Station. 73117 rushes through with yet another Gatwick service. I’ll explain why we were in this position in the next photo.
©Pete Dix

London 20-09-87. The friendly Foreman at Selhurst Depot was able to locate my two units for me. Panic, 8006 was about to leave Waterloo as part of a Bournemouth service. A quick look at the A to Z and with something like fifteen minutes to go to departure time it was decided to try and intercept it at Clapham. Making it with moments to spare and just after 73117 (from the last photo) had worked through I clambered the wall and just managed to take this shot. Not the best composed photo I’ve taken but priceless to me. One down, one to go.
©Pete Dix

London 20-09-87. Walking with permission around Stewarts Lane we came upon 73004. The chap at the controls told us that she had been named ‘The Bluebell Railway’ the day before. She was to carry this name for three years before surrendering it to 73133. Withdrawn in September 1991 she found her way to the Bluebell line and last heard was being used as a source of spares for 73003.
©Pete Dix

UK- 90020 Stafford 04/11/2005. A shortage of Voyagers has seen some Virgin Trains VXC services replaced with Locohauled sets, this week. Here 90020, now repainted, and de-named , pushes its way at the rear of the Manchester Picc- Birmingham New Street service, leaving Stafford on the 4th November 2005.
©Railfoto
