UK - Scotland - GNER HST to Inverness at Kingussie. I'm back from holydays in Scotland and I'm pleased to share some pictures taken over there with you. As a begin, here's a picture of the 1200 ex-Kings-Cross service to Inverness when leaving Kingussie at 19.14. I travelled myself with that service as it was the only direct one to Kingussie. We travelled 1st class as it was a long trip and as it's relative cheap with a "Eurodomino" (235 EUR for 3 days unlimited travel troughout UK - I'm still waiting my FIP card that allow me a reduction on train travels across Europe). I have to admit that the service was very good and the ride very interesting for a railfan who is also a railway's employee here in Belgium. What I specially appreciate is the control of the ticket before entering or leaving the platform as it certainly reduces the number of people travelling without a ticket. Here in Belgium, platform access is free and you can even board the train without a ticket or non completed ticket (such as a rail/go-pass) giving us many problems to deal with. So appart this consideration, it was a nice week holiday with many interestings things to discover (not only trains ;-) ). Buy Print©Eric |

UK Westbury [part 1] 29-06-05, Here are a few shots from a recent visit to Westbury. The weather was very changeable, but I did my best. Also, somehow I managed up in Cardiff, doing a now familiar run up to Rhymney with commuters totally oblivious to the quality traction taking them home (37411)!! 153352 Westbury Buy Print©MattW |

UK West mids 28-06-05. The Cross-City, one of my working mainstays, often recieves a lot of negative publicity due to its service intensity, and the derision from commuters. Some of this is deserved, but I feel it detracts from the fact that the line, in parts, runs in very attractive settings. With this in mind, I set out to get some nice photos on 'My' (south) end of the line, just to show what I mean. The shot across the field is arriving at Alvechurch from Redditch, the other arriving at Alvechurch from Birmingham. Also included is a shot of 170512 nearing the summit of the lickey incline about an hour earlier. All the moving about in aid of testing a new circular-polarising filter. 170512 Burcot Buy Print©MattW |
